Essential Oils If you are looking for quality essential oils for your therapy, this article will help you choose the right product with confidence. Because in today's market, there are many both pure essential oils and synthetic essential oils to choose from.
Look at the label carefully: Words that tell the difference
Pure essential oils are labeled as "Pure Essential Oil", while synthetic essential oils are often labeled as "Aromatic Oil", "Fragrance Oil" or "Perfume Oil". This distinction is important because synthetic essential oils, although they smell similar to the real thing, do not have therapeutic properties. In addition, the smell is often darker and heavier. Some people may feel dizzy or nauseous.
Packaging tells the quality
Good quality essential oils must be packaged in opaque glass bottles, such as brown, blue or green, to prevent light from destroying the properties of the oil. Never choose clear glass bottles. And most importantly, do not use plastic bottles or ordinary rubber caps because pure essential oils can corrode these materials. Use only special grade plastic droppers and high quality aluminum or hard plastic caps.
Price reflects the real quality
Genuine essential oils are quite expensive, especially those extracted from fragrant flowers such as jasmine, orange blossom, rose, sandalwood, chamomile, frangipani, celandine and lotus. The price can be as high as 100,000-500,000 baht per liter. If you find a price that is unusually low, it may be a sign that it is not a genuine product.
Storage and shelf life
Pure essential oils can be stored for 2-3 years, but be careful if you find sediment at the bottom of the bottle. However, some oils may change color over time without losing quality. For example, Roman chamomile will change from clear blue to clear green and yellow, or Rose Otto will soften after 3-6 months.
Production standards and certification
A reliable seller should be able to provide important information, such as:
The scientific name of the plant from which it is extracted
Country of manufacture
Extraction method
Certificate of Analysis or GC/MS (if available)
Special case: Thai flower essential oils
Currently, the only Thai flowers that can be truly extracted into essential oils are jasmine, frangipani, celandine, and lotus. If you find cheap Thai flower essential oils, these are synthetic fragrances that imitate the scent.
Acceptable alternatives
If your budget is limited, choosing cosmetic-grade synthetic fragrance oils from certified manufacturers such as Charabot or Fragonard is a safe choice, especially for scents that cannot be truly extracted, such as jasmine flowers, tea leaves, green tea, rice milk, or various fruit scents.
Expert tips
The best way to identify genuine essential oils is to learn their true scent characteristics. For example:
Rose Absolute: Deep red, soft rose scent
Rose Otto: Clear yellow, light and sharp scent
Rose Fragrance (synthetic): Clear yellow, heavy and dense scent
Purchasing quality essential oils can be expensive, but you will get a product that is truly effective in the treatment. Consider carefully and buy from a reliable source only.
